A thorough, able advocate, his practice increasingly comprises of instructions in police disciplinary cases and heavyweight crime such as sexual offences, fraud and homicide. He has defended in a number of very high profile cases in recent years. He works extremely hard and likes to be involved in the early stages of a case.
He is also keen on defending professionals both in the criminal jurisdiction and before their regulatory bodies giving consistency of representation. He also presents cases on behalf of the General Medical Council. Nicholas has a keen interest in bribery and corruption and often lectures on the subject. He accepts instructions to advise generally on these matters whether or not prosecutions are contemplated.
Nicholas also accepts instructions to defend motorists, particularly those at risk of losing their licences.
