John is an experienced barrister, his practice encompassing all aspects of commercial, insolvency, and property work.

His commercial practice extends to:

  • Acting for lenders and borrowers in relation to matters concerning commercial and residential lending
  • Acting in for parties engaged in contractual disputes
  • Enforcement of judgments
  • Professional negligence actions

Commercial Cases


Obtained Summary Judgment for a bank in a case enforcing the Personal Guarantees of Directors which was defended on the basis that the LPA Receivers were not validly appointed.

Succeeded at trial for a bank who had discounted invoices against the customer who defended the claim on the basis that the sums were not due.

Regularly act for banks and financiers in relation to claims on director’s guarantees and possession actions over properties securing business lending.

Advised and appeared on an application for a charging order based upon a European Enforcement Order.


Regularly advises a legal expenses insurer as to scope of the cover when claims are made against its policies.


Advised on claims against Solicitors as regards conveyancing transactions. Obtained a positive settlement after a without prejudice meeting.


Acted for a bailiff in a Form 4 complaint made against him. The bailiff was found fit and proper to hold a bailiff certificate.


Drafted a defence and counterclaim in a construction claim which was later settled.

Advised in a construction dispute.

Drafted a defence and strike out/summary judgment proceedings for an insurer against a builder claiming fees. The proceedings were successfully struck out.
