Licensing

Ian is a specialist criminal, regulatory and licensing barrister and is ranked in the Legal Directories as a leading practitioner in regulatory law, crime and financial crime.

Ian has conducted licensing cases on behalf of private individuals, companies and local authorities in the Magistrates, Crown and Administrative Courts.

He has a particular interest in firearms and alcohol licensing but accepts instructions in all of the following areas:

Licensing Cases

Re X – acting for a local authority in the revocation of a liquor licence for a business employing illegal immigrants which involved the U.K. Border Agency playing a leading role in the investigation.

Re Z – acting for a former police officer who was acquitted of rape but who had his firearms certificated revoked by the police after his acquittal. The appeal was conducted over several days in the Crown Court.

Re W – acting for a local authority in an appeal against the revocation of a taxi drivers licence based on the commission of criminal offences by the taxi driver.

Re D – acting for an individual with extensive antecedents whom successfully won his appeal against the refusal to grant a firearms certificate in the Crown Court and thereafter representing the individual in related case stated and judicial review proceedings in the Administrative Court as the local police force eventually successfully challenged the decision on appeal.
