Practice Overview

Harriet specialises in commercial dispute resolution, with a particular focus on financial services matters. She is frequently instructed by major banks and lenders and regularly acts for companies in relation to contractual and general common law matters.

Harriet is consistently recognised for the strength of her advocacy, which she couples with technical understanding. Harriet has been described by clients as an advocate who ‘makes compelling and robust arguments and smartly deals with tricky judicial questions’ (Legal 500, 2026), is ‘very good on her feet’ (Chambers and Partners, 2026), and whose ‘advocacy is excellent, with an ability to get judges on side’ (Legal 500, 2025). She is recognised as being ‘really bright and practical’ (Chambers and Partners 2026), and ‘technically good and great to work with’ (Chambers and Partners 2025).

In the area of financial services, Harriet’s practice regularly encompasses the following matters:

• Acting for banks and lenders in relation to the enforcement of security, including mortgages and guarantees;
• Acting for asset finance companies in relation to the recovery of assets;
• Acting for regulated entities in consumer credit matters, including disputes arising from alleged mis-selling, unfair terms, credit referencing issues, and general common law disputes; and
• Advising on regulated lending, including whether the provision of credit amounts to regulated lending.

In the area of commercial dispute resolution, Harriet is regularly instructed in relation to the following matters:

• Contractual disputes including the sale of goods, collateral warranties, matters of illegality and public policy, misrepresentation, agency and assignment;
• Disputes arising from restrictive covenants and confidentiality; and
• General common law disputes including conversion, breach of bailment and trespass to goods more generally.

Harriet is also able to draw upon her background in insolvency to assist clients. An example of her recent work in this area includes a successful application to restrain presentation of a winding up petition in which Harriet appeared for a major healthcare company.

Harriet has experience of led work, having recently been led on contractual and shareholder disputes. Historically, she has been led as part of a large counsel team instructed on an appeal relating to the certification of a Collective Proceedings Order by the Competition Appeal Tribunal. She has also been led in the substantial group litigation following the collapse of the Fundão Dam in South-Eastern Brazil.

In addition to her practice, Harriet is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion at the Bar. Harriet chairs chambers’ EDI Committee and sits on chambers’ Management Board.
