Exchange Chambers welcomes 200 delegates to its Forfeiture of Business Leases seminar series

April 26, 2018

Over 200 delegates attended Exchange Chambers’ latest round of seminars which focussed on Forfeiture of Business Leases in Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds this week.

The Forfeiture of Business Leases events featured presentations from Exchange Chambers barristers Bill Hanbury and Steven Fennell.

Bill Hanbury’s presentation covered the legal pitfalls of when and when not to forfeit. During his talk, he addressed a wide range of issues including  physical re-entry or court proceedings, problems with 146 notices, other restrictions on the right to forfeit, non-payment of rent and when relief is available.

Steven Fennell spoke about treading the difficult line between forfeiture and insolvency.  His wide ranging address covered different insolvency procedures and landlords’ rights, negotiating with administrators, liquidators and supervisors, court applications if negotiation fails and assignments and new leases.
