Richard Littler KC and Julian King from Exchange Chambers have secured a not guilty verdict for their client in a murder trial.

In total, 5 defendants were charged with the murder of one man and a separate charge of causing grievous bodily harm to another man in a rival business feud.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a disturbance between two groups near the Co-op in Somercotes Hill, Somercotes, on 25 November 2021. Peshang Sleman, 22, was found with stab wounds at the scene and taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Richard Littler KC and Julian King, instructed by Catherine Gaynor, Andrew Gilligan and Ian Lewis of JMW Solicitors, defended Herish Zandi, 30, of Somercotes Hill.

Mid trial after effective cross examination of prosecution witnesses and negotiation between prosecution and the defence team, not guilty verdicts were returned for both the murder and separate s18 matter.

Instead Zandi accepted manslaughter on a carefully agreed “loss of control” basis and a comparatively modest sentence was the result.
