Richard Littler KC and Eddy Steele secure only acquittal in multi-handed murder, rape and false imprisonment trial

June 13, 2023

Richard Littler KC (leader) and Eddy Steele from Exchange Chambers have secured the only acquittal in a multi-handed murder, rape and false imprisonment trial at Sheffield Crown Court.

Adam Clapham, 31, was tied to a chair and tortured for five hours in a Rotherham basement in the early hours of 18 September 2022.  Mr Clapham, and another man who was falsely imprisoned, were also forced to take part in sexual activity with one another. His body was found by police a day later in the dining room of the house where he died.

Prosecutors said the “level and extent of the violence inflicted was utterly horrific”.

Lynette Myers was found not guilty of murder and rape after a 7-week trial involving 8 defendants.  The jury accepted Ms Myers was not participating in a joint enterprise for the criminal activity in the basement. She will be sentenced for a separate assault on a separate complainant on the 24th July 2023.

Other defendants in the case were found guilty of a wide range of offences including murder, rape, false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Richard Littler KC and Eddy Steele were instructed by Kerry Raynor from Howard & Co Solicitors.
