People trafficking case to form part of Darragh MacIntyre documentary

March 10, 2016

A people trafficking case prosecuted by barristers from Exchange Chambers will this week form part of a hard hitting documentary by investigative reporter Darragh MacIntyre.

Britain’s Secret Slavery Business will be broadcast on BBC Two on Friday 11 March at 10 pm.

Featured in the documentary is the case of West Yorkshire factory owner Mohammed Rafiq. Exchange Chambers’ Christopher Tehrani QC, leading Stephen Grattage, prosecuted Rafiq, who was last month sentenced to 27 months for people trafficking.

The trafficked men, who were promised good wages, housing and food in the UK, were forced to work up to 16 hours a day for as little as £10 per week once in West Yorkshire. They survived on very little food, with up to 42 men living in a 4 bedroomed house.
