Nick Johnson KC prosecutes Police Corruption and Murder Trials in Liverpool

Nick Johnson KC successfully prosecuted back to back trials over the last 8 weeks at Liverpool Crown Court.

Akeel Kadir, a GMP police officer, together with his friend and business associate Junaid Patel, were convicted of a conspiracy to improperly exercise police powers, a rarely utilised underlying offence which came into force in 2015. The case concerned the improper provision of confidential police information to assist the business and personal interests of others outside the force. Nick was instructed by Alex Johnson, Specialist Prosecutor for the Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division of CPS.

Instructed by Senior Crown Prosecutor Nicola Inskip, Nick went on to prosecute Liam Thomas, who was found guilty today of murdering his cousin Matthew Horton, in a knife attack which took place outside a block of flats in Litherland on 5th September 2023. The Defendant will be sentenced this Friday.
