Jack Scott instructed in Christopher Kapessa Inquest

January 17, 2024

Jack Scott from Exchange Chambers is representing Welsh Ambulance Services Trust (WAST) at the Inquest into the death of Christopher Kapessa.

The tragic case has already had a high profile. Christopher, who was 13 at the time of his death, drowned in the River Cynon in July 2019, after allegedly being pushed into the river by another boy.

In July 2020, the Crown Prosecution Service concluded that “although there was evidence to support a prosecution for manslaughter it was not in the public interest to prosecute”. Christopher’s family challenged this decision through a Judicial Review. The High Court declined to overturn the CPS decision.

The Inquest is due to last two weeks and will receive evidence from around 40 witnesses in order to establish how Christopher’s death came about.
