Boyfriend found Not Guilty of role in death of baby

July 16, 2014

Benjamin Myers QC defended Darren Butterfield who was tried at Preston Crown Court for his part in the death of baby TG, aged 7 weeks. TG had died from severe injures as a result of being shaken.

The case was brought against Mr. Butterfield, his girlfriend and a tenant at the house where the child’s mother lived. Mr Butterfield and the other defendants were acquitted when it became apparent that the complex medical evidence could not support the prosecution case. Mr. Butterfield, who had never been held responsible for the shaking assault, had earlier pleaded guilty to an offence of perverting the course of justice.

He and his co-accused each received a sentence of 20 months imprisonment for perverting the course of justice.
