Unanimous guilty verdicts returned after four-week multi-complainant rape trial prosecuted by Tom Farr
March 23, 2026
Unanimous guilty verdicts were returned following a four-week trial prosecuted by Tom Farr at Bolton Crown Court. The Defendant, ‘AM’, stood trial facing multiple allegations of rape, controlling / coercive behaviour, stalking, and perverting the course of public justice, committed against three women over the course of eight years, all of whom were – at various points – in a relationship with the Defendant.
The Crown’s case was that the Defendant had engaged in a repeated course of conduct against his former partners which involved the use of physical violence, harassment, verbal abuse, and in the case of two of the victims, raping them.
The prosecution case was substantial and complex, involving more than 1,500 pages of evidence. It also required the obtaining and analysis of prison records and transcripts generated whilst the Defendant was remanded in custody awaiting trial. The Crown relied on that material as evidence of attempts to pervert the course of justice, as well as confession evidence relevant to other offences on the indictment.
The trial required the careful presentation of evidence relating to three victims over a lengthy period, with the jury being asked to consider a pattern of conduct spanning a number of years, and multiple allegations of serious sexual and domestic abuse.
The members of the jury deliberated on their verdicts for a little over seven hours before returning unanimous guilty verdicts at the end of the fourth week of the trial.
The Defendant will be sentenced on Tuesday 09 June 2026.
