Steven Crossley successfully represents Durham police officer charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm

September 7, 2017

Steven Crossley has successfully represented a Durham police officer charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Following an IPCC investigation, PC R, of Durham Constabulary, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm to a detainee in the course of arrest. CCTV footage showed PC R striking the detainee to the face on 6 occasions after the detainee had been ‘Tasered’ by another officer. The Prosecution alleged that at the time of the use of force the detainee was immobilised and defenceless. In acquitting PC R, the Magistrates observed that the force used was ‘more than justified’.

The case represents the third successful defence conducted by Steven of police officers facing allegations of criminal assault in 2017.

Steven was instructed by Debbie Sadler of Pattinson and Brewer Solicitors.
