Steven Crossley, David Toal and Michael Rawlinson, successfully represent Police officers at Police Misconduct Hearing

February 22, 2016

Steven Crossley, David Toal and Michael Rawlinson, from Exchange Chambers have successfully represented three Humberside Police Officers at a high profile Police Misconduct Hearing in Hull which lasted for five days.

A Custody Sergeant together with two arresting Officers faced serious allegations concerning their treatment of a foreign detainee in Police Custody who was subsequently found to have sustained serious injuries.

Following cross-examination and oral submissions, the Panel decided not to rely upon the potentially damaging evidence of the two key witnesses called by the Appropriate Authority.

The Officers had made admissions about their dealings with the individual which the Panel found amounted to Gross Misconduct. However, having heard further oral submissions, the Panel were persuaded to take “an exceptional course” and not to dismiss them.

The three officers were instead issued with Final Written Warnings.

Steven, David and Michael, were instructed by David Hubbard of Rebian Solicitors, Leeds.

They are members of Exchange Chambers’ police law and disciplinary team.
