Simon Medland QC appointed as Circuit Judge

The Queen has appointed Simon Medland QC from Exchange Chambers to be a Circuit Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable David Lidington MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed Simon to the Northern Circuit, based at Preston Crown Court with effect from 22 January 2018.

Simon Edward Medland, aged 52, will be known as His Honour Judge Medland QC. He was called to the Bar in 1991 by Middle Temple and took silk in 2011. He was appointed as a Recorder in 2005.

Simon’s experience and specialisms encompass all aspects of serious crime and fraud. He has prosecuted and defended in some of the region’s most serious cases, including many cases of murder, attempted murder and child destruction, child cruelty, serious sexual offending including historic sexual abuse, gross negligence manslaughter in the workplace and fraud.
