Helen will cover a whistle-stop tour of the Animals Act 1971 and the ways to defeat the strict liability it imposes. Discussing the basic principles, the case law, useful judgements and rounding off with an update of the most recent cases.

Roger will consider the tactics for Defendants and relevant case law when looking at future loss of earnings.

David Sandiford – Accident Reconstruction and Perception Reaction Time
David will consider the use of expert accident reconstruction evidence in defending and resolving liability dispute and in particular consider role of perception reaction time.

Catherine Knowles – Liability Issues in Historic Sexual Abuse Claims
Catherine will discuss liability issues that need to be considered when defending these sensitive and difficult cases, looking at issues of direct and vicarious liability, and the defences of limitation and consent.

Alice Dobbie – Defending Fraudulent Claims
Alice will address all aspects of dishonesty, setting out best practice for Defendants from their first response to a claim, through to defences, Part 18/35 questions, interim applications and trial tactics. She will also cover exaggeration, exemplary damages, committals, strike out, witness summonses, costs and appeals.

Andrew will discuss the effective deployment of covert surveillance evidence by Defendants in litigation. He will also discuss the perils and pitfalls arising from the recent reported cases concerning the recording of medical examinations.

This talk will examine what this important medical condition is, how and when it may present post-accident and the challenges it poses to defendants’ insurers and advisers in personal injury claims. It will also look at the relationship between FND and chronic pain.

Pankaj Madan – Subtle Traumatic Brain Injury
Pankaj is the author of the only specialist legal book on Subtle Traumatic Brain Injury. The Legal 500 observed that “he has the expertise to challenge the unusual in cases”. He will provide some pointers specifically aimed at Defendants in successfully defending such cases.
