Tanita is an effective advocate and frequently appears in court for interlocutory hearings and trials concerning property law. She is also regularly instructed to provide advice (in writing or in conference) and to draft pleadings in this area.
Tanita has a varied property practice encompassing landlord and tenant matters, disputes between neighbours, and cases involving commercial tenancies. She also appears on behalf of social housing providers in injunction applications, and she has experience of appearing in the Magistrates’ Court in disputes involving council tax and business rates.
Led by Brynmor Adams, Tanita appeared in the Court of Appeal as junior counsel for the Respondents in White v Alder [2025] EWCA Civ 392. In its decision, the Court of Appeal provided long-awaited confirmation that boundary agreements bind successors in title, even without notice.
Other examples of Tanita’s areas of practice include:
- Trials in possession of residential property, including section 8 Housing Act 1988 matters, disrepair, compensation under section 214 of the Housing Act 2004, and unlawful eviction.
- Applications for possession and sale brought under TOLATA 1996.
- Cases involving Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 tenancies and dilapidations claims.
- Boundary disputes and claims in trespass and/or nuisance, including interim and final injunctions.
- Applications for anti-social behaviour injunctions under ASBCPA 2014 as well as injunctions to remedy breaches of tenancy agreements.
- Applications to set aside liability orders in the Magistrates’ Court.
