Leading Silk’s Health and Safety Practice

February 17, 2014

Leading silk John Jones QC continues to develop a successful and specialist Health and Safety practice to complement his well-established and renowned criminal offering.

In recent years, John has developed a successful track record in defending Health and Safety actions – a practice he has built from the foundations of his criminal practice.  He acts for employers, companies, directors, individuals and public bodies on all aspects of Health and Safety enforcement and has appeared in a range of high profile Health and Safety cases with considerable success.

In R v Renton at Manchester Crown Court a young man died after being lifted on the forks of a fork lift truck.  The manslaughter case against the defendant was dismissed at the preparatory hearing.   In R v E and F, also at Manchester Crown Court, two serving police officers were prosecuted under the Health and Safety at Work Act due to their alleged involvement in a training incident when a colleague was accidentally shot and killed while in R v L and J two charitable foundations and church institutions were prosecuted for their alleged failures in supervision of a young man killed from a fall from height. Legal issues included the reverse burden of proof under the Health and Safety at Work Act.

John Jones QC and this specialist Health and Safety practice further strengthens Exchange Chambers’ Professional Discipline and Regulatory department with John being the senior Silk in the department.  The Set provides specialist advice and representation across a range of regulatory practice areas including Health and Safety, Inquests, Healthcare, Police Misconduct and Sports Discipline.
