Julian King secures acquittal in terrorism trial

Julian King from Exchange Chambers has secured an acquittal for his client accused of wilfully obstructing an examination under Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Mr OB was detained at Manchester Airport by Counter Terrorism Officers on the 24th August 2018.

During the trial at Manchester Magistrates Court on the 31st May 2019, the Court heard evidence concerning the screening, examination and detention stages of persons at ports or border areas. The defendant denied his answers given when questioned amounted to an attempt to frustrate or wilfully obstruct the process. The Court heard evidence concerning the operation of Schedule 7 and the powers under the Act compelling persons being questioned to answer questions.
