Imran Shafi successfully stays Indictment for second time in a month

July 10, 2015

Imran Shafi from Exchange Chambers, instructed by Walkers Solicitors, acting in trial this week. Operation Dastardly alleged the illicit importation of 4.5 million cigarettes in a shipping container.

He argued that due to the many and serious failings in the disclosure process his client could not now receive a fair trial.  HHJ Knowles QC following detailed submissions and a lengthy judgement took the ‘exceptional measure of last resort’ and duly stayed the indictment as an abuse of the process of the court. This latest success follows on from a similarly successful application pursued before HHJ Hatton at Liverpool Crown Court last month.
