Imran Shafi QC and Victoria Smith-Swain secure Not Guilty verdict in terrorism case

March 30, 2022

Imran Shafi QC (leader) and Victoria Smith-Swain from Exchange Chambers have secured a not guilty verdict for their client in relation to a terrorism offence following a ten-week trial before Mr Justice Spencer at Sheffield Crown Court.

Their client, SS, was alleged to have been a member of a nationwide Facist Neo-Nazi terror cell that was said to be seeking to arm themselves for terrorist purposes and encouraging others to take violent action.

During the course of the trial the court heard from experts in Far Right ideology, DNA, explosives and firearms.

Two others were convicted of offences including encouraging terrorism, disseminating terrorist publications, collecting information useful to a terrorist and manufacturing a 3D printed firearm.

SS was convicted only of possession of the 3D printed firearm as it was recovered from the kitchen of the property she shared with her co-accused boyfriend. She was unanimously acquitted by the jury of the Terror offence she faced.

Imran Shafi QC and Victoria Smith-Swain were instructed by Nafeesa Khaliq of Kings Solicitors. Both are members of the criminal team at Exchange Chambers.
