Imran Shafi KC succeeds in murder appeal
September 7, 2026
Imran’s client was convicted of a ‘joint enterprise’ murder arising from hostility between two rival south Manchester factions. Imran appealed the conviction to the Court of Appeal (Criminal Division), the single judge initially refused permission to appeal, undeterred Imran renewed the application to the full court which granted permission.
Following a further hearing before Singh LJ and two Justices of the High Court, the appeal was allowed on the grounds that the original trial judge had wrongly admitted inadmissible bad character evidence.
Imran was instructed by Naila Akhtar of Platts Solicitors, Manchester.
