Ian Whitehurst delivers Intellectual Property Crime Group webinar
May 13, 2025
Ian Whitehurst from Exchange Chambers and Martin Evans KC from 33 Chancery Lane delivered a webinar to the Intellectual Property Crime Group (IPCG) on civil asset recovery and its approach to combatting crime last week.
The lecture provided an overview of the civil recovery powers that are capable of being deployed by law enforcement agencies and regulatory bodies in combatting crime, away from the traditional criminal law approach. It also focused on the specific powers that can be deployed to disrupt, detain and forfeit the proceeds of criminality in the civil jurisdiction. Close to 200 people attended the session.
The IPCG, founded in 2004, is a membership of representatives from the private sector, enforcement agencies and government departments who have a role in tackling IP crime and infringement in the UK. Part of the work of the IPCG is to increase member awareness of subjects integral to those addressing IP crime; the monthly webinars and Knowledge Shares delivered by experts in their fields are a key part of this work.
