Former Deputy Head of Exchange Chambers appointed to the High Court Bench
September 24, 2025
Chambers is proud to congratulate His Honour Judge Mark Cawson KC, formerly Deputy Head of Exchange Chambers, on his appointment to the High Court Bench.
Mr Justice Cawson will be assigned to the Chancery Division where he will bring over 38 years of experience as a barrister, and 25 years of judicial experience as a Recorder, Deputy High Court Judge and Specialist Circuit Judge, to the role.
Mark Cawson KC will be known as The Honourable Mr Justice Cawson. He was called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn) in 1982 and took Silk in 2001. He was appointed as a Recorder in 1999, as a Deputy High Court Judge in 2004, and as a Specialist Circuit Judge in 2020.
He will take up appointment on 1 October 2025.
Stephen Connolly, Head of Exchange Chambers’ Business and Property department said:
“We were so pleased to hear the news of Mark’s elevation to the High Court Bench. It is a promotion and accolade that is richly deserved and we offer him our warmest congratulations. I have known Mark for over 25 years, as solicitor who instructed him, as a KC who led me and, latterly, as a Judge who listened patiently to me. If required to offer 3 qualities that best summarised Mark, they would be empathy, intellect and good old fashioned northern common sense. They are qualities that have served him well for the last 38 years or more and are qualities that advocates and litigants appearing before him in the future will very quickly come to appreciate.”
Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers added:
“During his time at Exchange, Mark made an immense contribution to Chambers. His judicial career is proving just as successful and he will be a huge asset to the High Court Bench. Everyone at Exchange is proud of his achievements and sends him their congratulations.”
