Exchange Chambers wins Outstanding Case of the Year
November 28, 2024
The Personal Injury Awards 2024 have taken place in Manchester this evening – with Exchange Chambers winning the Outstanding Case of the Year Award.
Hadley v Przybylo [2024] EWCA Civ 250 – a much-anticipated judgment on the recoverability of costs in attending MDT meetings – secured Exchange Chambers’ win in the fiercely contested Outstanding Case of the Year category.
Chris Barnes KC and Matthew Stockwell, instructed by Gamlins Law, acted for the claimant in the case.
“We are thrilled to win the Outstanding Case of the Year Award,” said Chris Barnes KC, Head of Exchange Chambers’ personal injury department. “The point determined in Hadley v Przybylo [2024] EWCA Civ 250 was one of real significance to the manner in which catastrophic injury claims are handled – specifically whether a claimant’s solicitor can recover the costs of attending meetings connected with the claimant’s rehabilitation, whether with the case manager or financial deputy. It was a pleasure to work with our instructing solicitors, Elen Roberts and Simon Roberts.”
Elen Roberts from Gamlins Law said:
“We are thrilled Hadley v Przybylo has been named as Outstanding Case of the Year at the Personal Injury Awards 2024. This was a significant ruling for the personal injury and clinical negligence profession, and it is hugely important that the legal team and their efforts have been recognised.”
Passing on his congratulations, Head of Exchange Chambers, Will Waldron KC said:
“Our personal injury team has an exceptional reputation in high value, complex cases involving injuries of the utmost severity, as well as a variety of niche personal injury matters. To win the Outstanding Case of the Year award is a source of great pride. Congratulations to Chris, Matt and our instructing solicitors, Gamlins Law.”
Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers, echoed Will’s sentiments. He said:
“Huge congratulations to Chris, Matt and our instructing solicitors, Elen Roberts and Simon Roberts.
“Earlier this year, our personal injury department achieved a series of outstanding rankings in Chambers UK and The Legal 500.
“To follow this up by winning the Outstanding Case of the Year award is a significant achievement. This award is down to the hard work and commitment of every one of the team’s barristers and clerks. A huge thank you should also go to our fantastic solicitors for their brilliant support.”
