Exchange Chambers re-states its commitment to the Women in Law Pledge

March 9, 2026

Exchange Chambers are proud signatories of the Women in Law Pledge, created by the Bar Council of England and Wales, The Law Society, and the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) to help tackle the issue of gender equality within the legal profession.

Having signed the Pledge in November 2021, Exchange Chambers committed to support the progression of women into senior roles in the profession, to collect data and set targets around equality and diversity, and to set out its goals in an action plan and track its progress towards achieving those goals.

Having recently conducted a review of its progress to date and, in February 2026, approved the implementation of a revised action plan, Exchange Chambers is pleased to take this opportunity to re-state its commitment to the Women in Law Pledge.

Reflecting on Exchange Chambers’ continued commitment to the Pledge, Harriet Hartshorn, a member of Chambers’ EDI Committee said:

“Chambers fully supports the ethos and objectives of the Women in Law Pledge. We have made meaningful progress since becoming signatories of the Pledge, but it is easy to become complacent. I am very pleased that Chambers has taken this opportunity five years on to take stock and reiterate its support for the Pledge.

“We are working on some exciting projects at the moment, and I look forward to helping Chambers achieve its goal of supporting the recruitment, progression and retention of female practitioners over the coming years.”

Jonathan I’Anson, Chief Executive at Exchange Chambers, expressed his support for the Pledge.

“We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to the Women in Law Pledge and to the principles it represents,” said Jonathan.

“Our recent review has provided an important opportunity to reflect on the progress we have made and, just as importantly, to identify where we must continue to improve.

“Our revised action plan strengthens our commitment and we remain determined to ensure Chambers provides an inclusive environment in which everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Last month, Exchange Chambers was also awarded the Charter for Fairness Mark by the Chancery Bar Association (ChBA), recognising the set’s commitment to promoting fairness in work allocation, career development, marketing and earnings within chambers.

The Fairness Charter was created in response to the extensive work undertaken by the Chancery Bar Association’s Equality and Diversity Subcommittee, following the publication of the Voices of Women at the Chancery Bar report.
