Mental Capacity Seminar takes place in Manchester

Exchange Chambers hosted its successful Mental Capacity Seminar at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester last month.

The event was well attended with excellent feedback from delegates.  Speakers included a range of Exchange Chambers silks and juniors, including:

Bill Braithwaite QC – The Evidential Basis for Assessment of Capacity: Medical Evidence.

Gerard Martin QC – Proving mild brain injury may have long term consequences. Based on research papers from a recent report from a leading expert on mild brain injury cases, Gerard looked at cognitive, behavioural and psychological dysfunction which may cause lack of capacity.

Amanda Yip QC – The Evidential Basis for Assessment of Capacity: What needs to be proved? Clinical and “real life” assessment.

Catherine Howells – Managing borderline cases. This talk tackled the difficult issues involved where the assessment of whether the Claimant has capacity is a borderline issue. It covered: Managing the Claimant and family, managing the court and the need for approval.

Pankaj Madan – Are Capacity issues in Subtle Traumatic Brain Injury Claims ever still relevant?
