Exchange Chambers holds inaugural two day personal injury seminar

July 6, 2018

Exchange Chambers hosted its Annual Personal Injury Seminar at the Radisson Blu Edwardian Hotel in Manchester this week. The event followed a unique new format – a two day seminar, featuring talks from a diverse range of barristers and medio-legal experts, and an exclusive ‘meet the experts’ interactive session.

This year’s seminar focused on rehabilitation in brain injury, spinal injury and prosthetics. There were a range of talks from members of the personal injury team, as well as an extensive range of topics from experts. Our speakers and their topics included:

  • Bill Braithwaite QC – ADR, rehabilitation and the choice of unit and type
  • Gerard Martin QC – Amputee rehabilitation and the law
  • David Knifton QC – Spinal injury rehabilitation and the role of a legal team
  • Paul Kirtley – Severe head injury, rehabilitation, case managers and private funding/state provision

Topics covered by our guest speakers included:

  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Care, support or rehabilitation?
  • The value of group holidays
  • The power of the great outdoors
  • Choosing the right expert
  • The vestibular system, performance and emotion and physical deconditioning in rehabilitation
  • Assistive technology in neuro-rehabilitation
  • Assessing prolonged disorders of consciousness
  • Amputee rehabilitation
  • Plastic surgery and amputee patients
  • Endocrine problems
  • Acquired brain injury and issues of mental capacity
