Exchange Chambers barristers and ABR Solicitors deliver sexual offences training to national police forces
July 10, 2023
Last week Exchange Chambers and ABR solicitors hosted a series of training seminars focusing on online sexual offence for members of the police.
The training was arranged and organised by James McAuley and Emma McGuire of ABR solicitors and covered a range of topics including case law updates, bail, the youth court as well as Serious Harm Prevention Orders (SHPOs). The firm has recently joined with Exchange to create a specialist online sexual offences team who are at the very front of the changing legal landscape.
Speakers included Alex Menary, a senior member of the Leeds criminal team who himself is a Class II recorder of the Crown Court, Charlotte Noddings, a junior member of the criminal team with extensive experience of Crown Court matters alongside Jordan Millican, Exchange Chambers’ current criminal pupil under the supervision of Alex Menary.
We were also fortunate enough to have been joined by His Honour Judge Clarke, a full-time judge sitting at Leeds Crown Court. We are most grateful to Judge Clarke for giving up his time to come and speak on a range of topics. His insight was both interesting and practical.
Also in attendance were speakers from Safer Lives, a charity who gave training on suicide prevention, specifically in relation to images and contact offending.
The training itself focused on the court’s approach to cases involving contact and images offences. Copies all of handouts and slides from the training will be made available on request.
