Exchange Chambers barristers appear at fatal shooting Inquest

Exchange Chambers barristers Andrew Smith and Stephen Grattage appeared at the inquest into the fatal shooting of a G4S security contractor in Iraq.

The area coroner for Manchester South, Joanne Kearsley, returned a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of a security contractor, Paul McGuigan, who was shot dead in Iraq by a colleague. The killer, Danny Fitzsimons, was convicted of murdering Mr McGuigan and another man, Darren Hoare, before an Iraqi court and is currently serving 20 years imprisonment. The inquest lasted 10 weeks and explored the involvement of the Probation Service, Greater Manchester Police and G4S in the deployment of Mr Fitzsimons and the tragic events that unfolded thereafter. Andrew represented one of the G4S employees and Stephen the deceased’s partner, Miss Prestage.
