David Toal from Exchange Chambers has successfully defended his client in a trial at Manchester Crown Court involving allegations of rape, indecent assault and child cruelty.

The Defendant was charged with a number of offences dating back to between 1999 and 2004. At the time he was in a relationship and living with a woman who had a daughter who was 9-13 years old. The defendant was charged with offences of Rape against the woman where he was said to have strangled and hit her during sexual intercourse. He was also charged with offences of Indecent Assault against the daughter where he was alleged to have regularly kissed her inappropriately. There were further charges of Child Cruelty involving the daughter where he was said to have regularly been violent to her and also made her do unusual acts which were designed to humiliate her.

After a 5 day trial at Manchester Crown Court the client was acquitted by the jury of all charges. An application for a Defence Costs Order was also successful (he was funding his defence privately). David Toal was instructed by Burton Copeland in Manchester.
