Court of Appeal success for Andrew Petterson

Andrew Petterson from Exchange Chambers has secured a significant sentence reduction for his client at the Court of Appeal.
In a historical sexual abuse case, Andrew’s client was originally sentenced to three years in prison. This sentence was quashed by the Court and a community order with 12 months supervision was imposed. The Defendant, who was aged between 11 and 13 at the time of offences, was 21 when sentenced.
There has been an order made by the court that no information can be published that would lead to the identification of the victims.
The matter was listed before Lady Justice Macur DBE, Mr Justice Nicol and The Recorder of Sheffield sitting as a judge of the Court of Appeal Criminal Division.
Andrew has developed a practice specialising in serious crime. He is regularly instructed in cases alleging serious violence, sexual offences, drug trafficking and fraud. He frequently appears on behalf of the CPS and is a Grade 3 Prosecutor. He has extensive experience of prosecuting on behalf of Local Authorities, including the prosecution of regulatory matters. Andrew has also prosecuted on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
