Claire Gourley appointed as District Judge

The Queen has appointed Claire Gourley to be a District Judge on the advice of the Lord Chancellor, the Right Honourable Robert Buckland QC MP and the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, the Right Honourable The Lord Burnett of Maldon.

The Lord Chief Justice has deployed her to the Northern Circuit, based at Wigan County Court and Family Court with effect from 14 October 2019. Claire will be known as District Judge Gourley.

Called to the Bar in 1996, Claire practised exclusively in personal injury, education and highways law and mainly acted for defendants. She was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2015 and as a Fee-paid Judge of the First-tier Tribunal, assigned to the Health Education and Social Care Chamber in 2019.
