September 9, 2026
Chris Barnes KC and Pankaj Madan (who has been shortlisted for Personal Injury Junior of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards 2026) have recovered damages with a capitalised value in excess of £20,000,000 for a claimant catastrophically injured in a road traffic accident.
The settlement, including periodical payments for future care and case management, was agreed just over four years post-accident and will allow the claimant to live in the community with high-quality care for the rest of her life. Chris and Pankaj were instructed by Ann Allister of Carpenters Solicitors.
During the approval hearing, the Judge praised the conduct of all parties involved, describing the resolution of such a complex catastrophic injury claim within just over four years as “exceptional”.
The Court also acknowledged the detailed advice provided by counsel and the collaborative efforts of all parties, including the defendant’s legal team and insurer, whose constructive engagement and timely interim payments helped progress the claim efficiently.
The Judge further recognised the commitment and dedication shown by the claimant’s family and Litigation Friend throughout the claim and noted that the approved settlement had effectively “sealed her future” by providing long-term financial security.
Commenting on the settlement, Chris Barnes KC said:
“Achieving the right outcome in a case of this complexity depends on close collaboration throughout.” Pankaj Madan added: “It was a pleasure to work alongside Ann and the team at Carpenters, with a shared focus on securing an outcome that will provide the claimant with the care and support she needs for the rest of her life.”
