Chris Barnes KC and Chris Allen secure £4 Million Settlement for Catastrophically Injured Young Woman

A young woman who sustained catastrophic injuries in a serious road traffic accident has secured a £4 million settlement, following approval by the High Court.

The Claimant was represented by Chris Barnes KC and Chris Allen, instructed by Romilly Houghton of Irvings Solicitors. The settlement was achieved through a constructive and collaborative approach between the parties, enabling an early resolution of the claim. This approach was particularly important given the significant emotional and psychological burden that ongoing litigation was placing on the Claimant. By avoiding protracted proceedings, the parties were able to prioritise the Claimant’s welfare, reduce further strain on her recovery, and secure a timely outcome that provides long‑term security and stability.

At the approval hearing, HHJ Wood KC sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge approved the settlement, stating that he was “more than satisfied that the settlement is reasonable recompense and provides security to the Claimant for the rest of her life.”

The award reflects the severity and life‑changing nature of the injuries suffered and ensures long‑term financial security, care, and support for the Claimant’s future needs. The settlement was reached on a full and final basis and approved following careful scrutiny by the Court.

The Claimant’s legal team welcomed the Court’s approval, noting that the settlement brings an important conclusion to the litigation and allows the Claimant to focus on her ongoing recovery and rehabilitation.

Romilly Houghton commented “The Claimant sustained catastrophic injuries which have had a devastating effect on her whole family. At the request of the Claimant, early resolution was sought which was achieved through Chris Barnes KC and Chris Allen adopting a highly skilled collaborative approach in conjunction with the Defendant’s Counsel. This significant settlement will protect the Claimants future care and rehabilitation needs and allow the Claimant and her family to focus on rebuilding her future.  It was a pleasure working with Chris Barnes KC and Chris Allen.”
