Charlotte Rimmer Secures Acquittal in Proof in Absence Trial for Sexual Offences
February 13, 2020
Charlotte Rimmer from Exchange Chambers has secured the acquittal of a man charged with sexual assault and exposure following a trial at York Crown Court. The defendant was accused of posing as a taxi driver in Manchester City Centre and driving an intoxicated female to her home address in York. During the journey the Crown alleged that the defendant sexually assaulted the complainant and exposed himself to her.
The defendant did not attend the trial, however Charlotte Rimmer remained to defend him and challenge the accounts of the prosecution witnesses, based upon his full instructions.
Following trial the jury retired for an hour before returning unanimous not guilty verdicts.
Charlotte was instructed on this case by Ian Cochrane of Angela Taylor Solicitors.
