Benjamin Myers KC secures verdict of not guilty to conspiracy to defraud

July 16, 2026

Benjamin Myers KC of Exchange Chambers has secured a not guilty verdict for a client charged with conspiracy to defraud as part of a wider bribery investigation being prosecuted by a London-district Council in accordance with s.222 of the Local Government Act 1972.  The allegation concerned the fraudulent manipulation of the contract tendering process to secure local authority work.  The case was robustly challenged at every opportunity, including an application to stay the indictment as an abuse of process.  After a review of the case, the Prosecution offered no evidence, and a formal verdict of not guilty was recorded.

Ben was instructed by Anthony Smith, Partner at Richardson Lissack Solicitors.
