Amy Weir marks first year at Exchange with notable trial successes and forthcoming Court of Appeal appearance

April 13, 2026

Amy became a full member of Exchange in March 2025 after successfully completing pupillage under the supervision of Fiona Clancy. In her first year of practice, she has quickly established a busy criminal caseload, prosecuting and defending in a wide range of serious matters.

Recent highlights include securing unanimous not guilty verdicts on a five-count indictment following a five-day trial involving multiple prosecution witnesses. Further, Amy successfully represented the Crown in a burglary trial involving expert evidence, obtaining a unanimous guilty verdict.

In another matter, she resisted a Crown application to admit hearsay evidence on the grounds of witness unfitness, applying the principles in R v Riat. This resulted in the Crown offering no evidence and a not guilty verdict being entered.

Reflecting the strength of her developing practice, Amy is due to appear in the Court of Appeal later this year in relation to an appeal against conviction arising from proceedings in November 2025.

Amy is regularly instructed in POCA proceedings and has represented defendants involved in large-scale drug conspiracies at sentence. She is also frequently called upon to address the Court on issues of dangerousness in sentences for particularly serious matters.

Alongside her practice, Amy contributes to the profession through outreach and mentoring, including attending the Northern Circuit Pupillage Fair and speaking on a panel at the University of Law.
