Exchange Chambers has welcomed criminal and regulatory specialist Ray Smith as a new member.

Formerly both a solicitor and barrister in his native Australia, Ray was called to the UK Bar in 2013.    He joins Exchange Chambers from 9 Bedford Row in London.  In an interesting and varied career, Ray has also worked as an Air Force Officer in the Royal Australian Air Force and as an advisor to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva and Kabul.

Commenting on his decision to join Exchange Chambers, Ray Smith said:

“Exchange Chambers is a dynamic set with a reputation for excellence.  I am looking forward to developing and diversifying my practice in the areas of criminal, regulatory and public law.”

Said Tom Handley, Director of Chambers at Exchange Chambers:

“We’re delighted to welcome Ray to Chambers.  He is a barrister with real life experience in a range of challenging roles.”

Exchange Chambers currently has 168 members, including 16 silks. If the Set grows at its projected rate, it will have over 200 members within the next 3 years.

In a further boost, Exchange Chambers has secured its highest ever rankings in the newly released Legal 500, where it is described as a “regional powerhouse” and praised for its “great depth of experience and expertise at all levels.”  Exchange Chambers has also been shortlisted for Regional Set of the Year at the Chambers UK Bar Awards.
