Nicholas Walker defends former Police Constable Kevin Szabo

Nicholas Walker from Exchange Chambers has secured the liberty of former Police Constable Kevin Szabo.

In what was described as a very sad case, the Recorder of Liverpool, HHJ Goldstone QC ordered Mr Szabo to be subject to a community order for an offence of Dangerous Driving.  Mr Szabo, who was suffering with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder at the time which stemmed from his time in the Army when serving in Iraq had, when ill and off work, taken a police car from Ellesmere Port Police Station and driven it to the police headquarters in Winsford.  He had driven the car through metal gates and a security barrier.

Commenting on the case, Nicholas Walker said: “Kevin Szabo had an exemplary record as a policeman and had served in Iraq.  Sadly, he became ill and acted completely out of character.  Working with Nick Holroyd at Slater Gordon we were able to get him diagnosed for the first time as suffering with PTSD.  He was then able to access the brilliant work done at Audley Court by Combat Stress.”
