Exchange Chambers hosts Modern Slavery Act Seminar

March 17, 2017

Exchange Chambers hosted its Modern Slavery Act Seminar 2017 in Manchester yesterday.

The well attended event –  which included presentations from Exchange Chambers barristers John Wyn Williams, Peter Killen and David Birrell – examined the statutory defence under s.45 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015.  The defence, which is similar to duress, represents an important development in criminal law which all practitioners should be familiar with.

John Wyn Williams, Peter Killen and David Birrell all have experience in this area having been involved in a large drugs conspiracy in which the defence was raised. During the seminar they briefly summarised the law and procedure before offering practical tips and advice on how to approach cases in which the defence might arise.

Following the success of the event, Exchange Chambers will be hosting its Modern Slavery Act seminar in other cities in the coming months.  Further details will follow shortly.
