Exchange Chambers now has over fifty members in Manchester following the arrival of Hammonds partner Simon Whitfield, who is changing career to become a barrister.
Simon, who is starting at Exchange Chambers on Monday, is currently a partner in the Built Environment Group (Construction, Engineering & Projects) at Hammonds' Manchester office. His particular expertise covers litigation and arbitration within complex construction disputes and adjudications, acting for both contractors and employers. He has undertaken a number of mediations and other forms of alternative dispute resolution including Judge-led early neutral evaluations. He is also experienced in the drafting of construction documentation; including contract drafting, professional appointments and warranties.
Simon, who over 12 years experience of the construction industry, qualified at Berwin Leighton before moving to Davis Wallis Foyster in 1992, Pinsent Masons in 1997 and Hammonds in 2001. He will now complete a three month pupillage at Exchange Chambers.
Commenting on his decision to switch career and join Exchange Chambers, Simon said:
"I very much enjoyed my time at Hammonds and will continue to work closely with the firm in the future.
"Joining Exchange Chambers is an exciting challenge for me on so many different levels. As a barrister, I am looking forward to developing a first rate practice in construction, property and regeneration work. There is so much potential in this area.”
Added Simon:
"Having worked with Exchange Chambers over the years I know all about the Set's expansion and development, particularly in Manchester. There is both quality and strength across the board. It is a hugely impressive Chambers."
Said Tom Handley, Director of Chambers at Exchange Chambers:
"It is a pleasure to welcome a lawyer of Simon's calibre on board.
“In recent years, we have taken on a number of solicitors who have decided to pursue a career at the Bar.
“Simon has all the attributes to develop a very successful practice and by maintaining his strong links with Hammonds he will be able to hit the ground running.”
