Sarah Johnston

Practice:

 

Sarah is experienced in all areas of criminal litigation acting on behalf of both the prosecution and defence in the Crown Court.  Her areas of practice include serious violence, drugs offences, fraud, firearms and sexual offences.  She also represents defendant’s interests in all aspects of prison law including applications for Judicial Review, adjudications and Parole Board hearings.

 

She is a Grade 3 Prosecutor and has specialist knowledge of confiscation proceedings.  Sarah has also acted as a led-junior in a number of cases involving fraud, attempted murder and violent disorder.

 

She has conducted prosecutions on behalf of several local authorities in criminal and quasi-criminal cases including environmental prosecutions, anti-social behaviour and benefit fraud and has experience in regulatory defence work including cases involving FACT prosecutions.

 

Recent notable cases:

 

  • Operation Chancellor (2010) - Led junior in a multi-handed VHCC fraud conspiracy where no evidence was offered after two weeks of legal argument.

 

  • A-G’s Reference No 52 & 53 of 2008 - successfully defended a reference by the Attorney General where the Appellate Court upheld a suspended prison sentence imposed for Section 18 Wounding with Intent after a trial.
