Chris Royle
Chris was called in 2009 and joined chambers in 2011 having previously been a tenant at a large midlands-based set. His commercial practice covers the following areas:
• Contractual disputes
• Sales of goods actions
• Insolvency (both personal & corporate)
• Debt recovery
• The law relating to bailiffs & seizure of goods
• Possession (including ASBO)
As a former computer security professional and experienced programmer (languages include C,PHP, Perl and SQL), Chris is able to use his previous expertise to excellent effect in IT-related disputes, where necessary ‘translating’ technical terms and concepts for the legal team or Court.
Recent Cases
- M v B (2011): Successful defence of a bailiff on a Form 4 complaint where the primary allegation was one of strangulation whilst executing Council Tax liability orders.
- R v S (2011): Finding of 'No case to answer' in a criminal prosecution for driving without insurance after a submission based on the interpretation, validity and inadequate service of an insurer's notice to terminate the insurance contract.
- A Ltd v H Ltd (2011): Successful application for summary judgment on behalf of the claimant in a debt recovery action founded on a wholly implied contract against an unrepresented defendant.
- A v Bolton (2011): Clarification on the validity of warrants of execution produced pursuant to CPR Part 75.
