Kevin Slack

Kevin undertakes all aspects of criminal work, both prosecution and defence. He is on the Attorney-General’s Panel of Prosecution Advocates (B List) and is a CPS Category 3 prosecutor. The majority of his work involves prosecuting on behalf of various prosecution authorities which have included HMRC, SOCA, CPS (Organised Crime Division), BERR, the Environment Agency as well as numerous local authorities. Kevin has extensive experience of cases involving fraud and has prosecuted and defended in cases involving international money laundering. Kevin has a particular expertise in benefit fraud prosecutions and regularly prosecutes on behalf of the Department for Work and Pensions.

 

Recent notable cases

 

           Led Junior for the prosecution in Operation Receptor (2010 Manchester Crown Court) a successful SOCA prosecution of a class A drugs trafficker and his financial adviser for money laundering.

 

           Prosecution Counsel in Operation Housemaster (2009 -Preston Crown Court) This involved the successful prosecution of three employers who conspired to defraud the DWP by encouraging over 50 members of staff to falsely claim social security benefits;

 

           Operation Tancred (2007-2009 – Preston Crown Court) This case concerned an international conspiracy to defraud elderly victims by the provision of unnecessary damp proof treatment and then the subsequent laundering of the proceeds. Kevin was Second Junior Counsel for the main defendant who was tried following his extradition to the UK.

 

           Operation Zealot (Liverpool Crown Court 2007-2008). Kevin successfully prosecuted a total of 15 defendants for benefit fraud offences arising out of their involvement in a conspiracy to trade in counterfeit goods.

 

           Operation Goodies (Manchester Crown Court 2005 -2010). Instructed by HMRC as led Junior in relation to a large-scale conspiracy to import counterfeit cigarettes.  Confiscation proceedings are ongoing in the Court of Appeal. 

 

           Second Junior Prosecuting Counsel in Operation Flourish (Preston Crown Court 2007) which concerned allegations of large-scale insurance frauds and money laundering.

 

           Disclosure Counsel in Operation Salt (Birmingham Crown Court 2006-2008) prosecuted by CPS Organised Crime Division. The case concerned a covert investigation into police corruption involving gangland criminals. All 9 defendants were successfully convicted.
