REGULATORY

Jason MacAdam has been a practising barrister for over 20 years. He has experience of regulatory work spanning 15 years having been instructed upon matters before various tribunals and inquests such as:-

 * The Privy Council;
 * The General Medical Council;
 * The Coroner’s Court;
 * The Healthcare Professions Council;
 * Police Discipline Tribunals.

Between 2007-11 on a great number of occasions he represented the GMC in both their London and Manchester offices. He has appeared before all of their various fitness to practice panels and committees whether they be FTP, review, Interim orders, Registration Appeals panels and the Investigation Committee. In total before the various GMC tribunals he has presented cases for the GMC against several hundred doctors. Such cases have lasted from a day to up to 4 weeks at a time. Cases have covered the full range of conduct, conviction, health and performance issues. The GMC would regularly seek pre/post charge advice from him regarding the full spectrum of matters that come before their tribunals. Such issues often involved the advice upon the sufficiency of evidence, disclosure issues and Rule 28 cancellations. Additionally he was one of a very small number of Manchester based counsel authorized to accept instructions from GMC solicitors to appear before the High Court.

In addition to the GMC he has appeared on numerous occasions on behalf of police officers before police disciplinary tribunals where officers are charged with serious disciplinary matters.

On many occasions he has represented interested parties before the Coroner’s Court undertaking Inquests ranging from one day to 8 weeks, this latter case being the Christopher Alder Inquest in Hull which was the longest running single death inquest in the UK.
