Practice
Gareth’s practice covers both prosecution and defence work and he has particular experience in the following areas:
• Violence offences
• Dishonesty/fraud offences
• Drugs offences
• Public Order offences
• Offences involving immigration issues
• Road Traffic offences
• Proceeds of Crime Act proceedings
Gareth prosecutes on behalf of the CPS and also regularly appears on behalf of the DWP. He has prosecuted on behalf of local authorities and the Environment Agency.
Recent Experience
Gareth has been instructed in POCA proceedings by the DWP and has also appeared on behalf of defendants. In a recent case, proceedings were brought under s.23 POCA to vary an order made as to the value of uncut diamonds. The Defendant had been unable to sell a number of uncut and uncertified diamonds for a number of years and the prosecuting authorities had been unwilling to sell them on his behalf. The diamonds were therefore sent them to Ghana where they were apparently stolen.
He has also acted in burglary cases and cases of theft and fraud, particularly in relation to benefit fraud where he has appeared both for the prosecution and defence.
