Eric has broad and extensive experience of defending and prosecuting a vast range of serious offences in the criminal courts.
He is instructed regularly by many leading defence practices in Merseyside. He is a Grade 4 CPS Advocate and is appointed to the Attorney-General’s Unified B List of Prosecutors.
Notable Cases
R v T (2010)- Sex offender on licence charged with sexual assaults and facing indeterminate sentence. Compromise plea negotiated resulting in near immediate release. Subsequent legal argument to seek to prevent newspaper publication of photographs of defendant.(defending)
R v C (2010)- Threats to kill and attempted aggravated arson with major issues of defendant’s fitness to plead (prosecuting)
R v B (2010)- Manslaughter when store worker trying to detain shoplifter suffered rupture of cerebral aneurysm. Issues of causation with pathologist, cardiologist, neurologist and neuro-pathologist reporting (defending)
R v B (2009)- Confiscation hearing after drug conviction involving wife’s claim to equitable interest in family home and business with bank credit. (prosecuting)
R v T (2010)- Rape and abduction by former partner with issues of the limit of her consent (defending)
R v D (2010)- triple rape, 3 complainants who were a recent partner, a neighbour and a street sex worker. Successful application to sever into two trials. Issues on cross admissibility. (defending)
R v H (2009)- death by dangerous driving trial involving a video reconstruction to demonstrate circumstances in which a van driver drove into the rear of an HGV and skidded to block the motorway causing a following car to crash into the van. (prosecuting)
R v C (2010)- conspiracy to supply class A drugs in Scotland and Merseyside. Negotiated basis of plea accepted by Crown to put defendant into limited and lowest category of participant (defending)
