Amanda Johnson

Amanda is a specialist criminal practitioner, and is instructed to both prosecute and defend. She regularly receives instructions to prosecute multi-handed cases involving drugs, violence and public disorder. She has been a led junior in numerous cases, including white collar fraud, murder and conspiracy to murder, arson, and drugs conspiracies. She also practices in the field of prison law.

 

She has extensive experience in the following areas of practice:

 

 * Murder and serious violence

 * Serious sexual offences, including those of a historic nature

 * Child cruelty

 * Serious drugs offences and conspiracies

 * Robbery

 * Fraud (including white collar crime, benefit fraud, VHCCs)

 * Money laundering

 * Public order offences, including violence and disorder at football matches.

 

Amanda works throughout the North West and Yorkshire, and is always happy to travel nationwide as required.

 

Recent Notable Cases:

 

 * R v Thompson and others (2011) defending multi-handed benefit fraud,

    conspiracy to defraud £3 million;

 * R v Hussain and others (2010) defending large scale drugs conspiracy;

 * R v Marsh and another (2010) defending youth offender accused of attacking and

    stabbing a youth outside his school;

 * R v Bromilow and others (2010) defending "ear biting" s18;

 * R v Andrei (2010) defending Romanian youth accused of serious robbery, whereby

    he and another had tied the victim up inside the house and disabled the security

    system;

 * R v Lakatos (2009) defending Hungarian national against child cruelty and s18, in

    circumstances where 3 year old child had suffered brain injury, with issues of

    causation;

 * R v Daley (2009) prosecution of sexual asssault - sleepwalking defence;

 * R v Sydenham (2009) defending "ear biting" s18;

 * R v Scullion and another (2009) defending a youth against an allegation of a

    particularly grave s18;

 * R v Coulson (2008) defending date rape;

 * R v Monaghan (2008) led junior in conspiracy to murder involving firearms;

 * R v Booth and Westhead (2007) led junior in murder prosecution - defendants

    were both youths.
