Bob is a well respected and highly experienced criminal practitioner working in all areas of the criminal law and related fields. He is a Category 4 prosecutor. He has been instructed in a number of serious high profile cases.

He works across the North and throughout England and Wales.

 

 

Although he is best known for his defence work, Bob has prosecuted high profile cases of fraud, sexual offences and causing death by dangerous driving. He has also appeared in inquests arising from deaths in custody and road traffic accidents. He advises on and has appeared in civil jury trials relating to complaints against the police and has experience of police disciplinary tribunals. He has advised on and conducted immigration cases including judicial review.

 

Recent notable cases

 

Homicide

 

R v Hill – he appeared for a mother charged with the murder of her child where there was contested psychiatric evidence on the issue of diminished responsibility.

 

R v Bowman – defended the mother of a toddler alleged to have been killed by the mother’s boyfriend after systematic child abuse. The case included the consideration of a vast amount of expert medical evidence.

 

 

Fraud

 

R v Evans – Seen as the largest company fraud in North Wales at the time involving extensive argument on abuse of process.

 

R v Street – conspiracy to defraud local authorities related to the running of private childrens homes.

 

R v Clarke – defended in a multi-million pound counterfeiting conspiracy.

 

 

Sexual Offences

 

R v M – appeared for a grandfather accused of repeated sexual abuse of his grand-daughters

 

R v H – defended in case involving the kidnap and rape of a small boy by two brothers.

 

R v X – defended father accused of rape of his own son.

 

 

Drugs

 

Large scale conspiracies to supply class A drugs involving covert surveillance. Drugs importations

 

 

Robbery

 

Many cases involving armed robberies of banks, post offices and jewellers.

Bob is a keen musician. He was the guitarist in the late 70s/early 80s band, Golinski Brothers, whose single was among John Peel’s favourite records. “People have been given the OBE for less, a lot less!” said Peel.
